Wegovy travel storage: what the FDA label actually allows

Wegovy is the FDA-approved semaglutide product indicated, with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, for chronic weight management in eligible adults and in pediatric patients 12 years and older with obesity, among other labeled uses. If your pharmacy dispensed a different semaglutide presentation, those storage numbers may not apply. Read the carton in your bag. When in doubt, the prescribing clinician and the dispensing pharmacist are the people who can interpret your exact device.

Wegovy injection: refrigerator first, 28-day backup

Store unused Wegovy single-dose pens or prefilled syringes in a refrigerator at 36 F to 46 F (2 C to 8 C). Keep them in the original carton until you inject, to protect the medicine from light. Do not freeze Wegovy, do not use it if it has been frozen, and do not store it directly beside the cooling element.

If refrigeration will be unreliable for part of the trip, the label allows unused single-dose pens or syringes to be kept at 46 F to 86 F (8 C to 30 C) for up to 28 days before cap removal. Track the date you first remove a pen from the refrigerator. After 28 days out, discard it even if it still looks fine. After you inject, discard the single-dose pen.

Wegovy FlexTouch, if that is the device on your label, is a single-patient-use pen with a different clock: refrigerate before first use; after first use it may be stored for up to 56 days at room temperature or in the refrigerator, without a needle attached. Never share a FlexTouch pen between people, even if the needle is changed.

• Preferred storage: 36 F to 46 F (2 C to 8 C) until expiration.
• Unused single-dose pen or syringe: up to 28 days at 46 F to 86 F in the carton, before cap removal.
• Discard if frozen, overheated above 86 F, light-damaged, or past the 28-day unrefrigerated limit.
• FlexTouch in-use period: up to 56 days after first use (confirm your device).

Wegovy tablets on a trip

Wegovy tablets are stored at 68 F to 77 F, in the original bottle, away from moisture. A steamy hotel bathroom is a poor storage spot. Tablets do not solve injection-day timing, and the label states that breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with Wegovy tablets because of the SNAC absorption enhancer. Do not crush, split, or move tablets into an unmarked pillbox if that conflicts with how you were counseled to store them.

Airports, ice packs, and carry-on habits

Keep Wegovy in a carry-on. Cargo holds can freeze. TSA allows medically necessary liquids and injectables beyond the 3.4 oz cosmetics limit in reasonable quantities when you declare them. Medically necessary gel packs may be screened even if slushy. Separate the medicine from your snack liquids so the officer can inspect it.

A prescription copy or pharmacy label helps at U.S. checkpoints and is often more important abroad. You do not need to explain your diagnosis at the belt. You do need to say that the item is medically necessary medication and, if present, a cooling pack.

Keeping the weekly day intact

Wegovy injection is taken once weekly, on the same day each week, with diet and activity as labeled. Time zones do not create extra doses. If your usual injection evening becomes morning at the destination, ask your clinician whether to keep home time for a short trip or to shift to local time while staying near a seven-day interval.

If you miss a dose, use the missed-dose instructions in the Medication Guide. Taking two injections close together is not a travel strategy. If you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, hypoglycemia planning belongs in the pre-trip clinician conversation, not in an airport bathroom.

Situations that are not “just packing”

Tell surgical and anesthesia teams you use Wegovy if a procedure with sedation is planned. The label warns that GLP-1 medicines delay gastric emptying and that pulmonary aspiration has been reported during general anesthesia or deep sedation. That is a clinician conversation, not a DIY hold.

Wegovy may cause fetal harm. For weight-reduction or cardiovascular-risk-reduction use, the label says to discontinue when pregnancy is recognized and, because of the long half-life, to stop at least two months before a planned pregnancy. Lactation rules differ for tablets versus injection. None of those decisions should be made from a travel article.

If a pen is dropped on a hard surface, looks damaged, or has been outside the labeled temperature range, do not inject it. Call the pharmacy. This page does not recommend switching products to make a trip easier.
